History and Meaning of Panchatantra
Panchatantra is made up of two words, ‘Pancha’ meaning ‘five’ and ‘tantra’ meaning ‘principles.’ Panchatantra stories came into existence long back during the rule of King Amarasakti. He had 3 sons but none of them was found to be fit for ruling the kingdom. So, he sought the help of a scholar to instil in them good morals. The scholar compiled many stories in 5 volumes to teach them important life lessons. The stories talked about winning friends, losing friends, war and peace, the consequences of acting without thinking, and losing what we have gained.
Importance of Panchatantra Stories
Panchatantra stories are a fun read for children. Since most of the stories have talking animals as characters, kids will be eager to listen to them. They will get exposed to different feelings, emotions and reactions while hearing these stories and they will start comprehending many things that happen in life.
